Lovely Boracay Island

In speaking of a world-class Philippine white beach and immaculate sea waters, Boracay Island would probably on the top of the list. Its natural sugary white sand and turquoise waters, complemented by blue skies and the invigorating sun make this island “the beach capital of the Philippines”.

Boracay Island is located at the center of the Philippine archipelago. It is part of the province of Aklan in Panay. It is one of the central islands, collectively known as the Visayas, one of the 3 principal geographical divisions of the country.

This beach capital is situated 315 kilometers south of the City of Manila, the capital city of the Philippines and 2 kilometers offshore from Panay Island. Caticlan is the mainland gateway for sea and air access to Boracay. Outrigger boats leave every few minutes from Caticlan Jetty Port to Cagban Port in Boracay island.
The island has a total land area of 10.32 square kilometers. Shaped like a dog-bone, the island is approximately seven kilometers long and the narrowest spot is less than a kilometer wide. The northern and southern parts rise up to 100 meters above the sea level.

Some say that the island's geography looks like a waving hand and its two main attractions are located at the wrist of the hand. The wrist is where the pulse is and it pulsates an active life, night or day.

Boracay Island has been divided into 3 major districts: the Barangay Yapak in the north, Barangay Manoc-Manoc in the south and Barangay Balabag in the center of the island. These three barangays are part of the 17 barangays belonging to the Municipality of Malay in Aklan.

It is a tropical island which means it has beaches, palm trees, forests and hills. Being an island in the Sulu Sea, it is naturally endowed with long coasts of powdery white sand. It has a tropical summery climate almost throughout the year, making it the endearing to most tourists.

The island is blessed with a gently topography, a gently rolling terrain, suitable for hillside hotels or simple lodges as it offers a splendid panorama of the vast ocean. But still, most of the posh hotels are located on Boracay plains, mostly beachfront. Some 400-hectare land is devoted as forest lands and some 600-hecatres for agricultural purposes.

There are number of wonderful beaches around the island, but its geography features the two main beaches of the island: the White Beach and the Bulabog Beach. The other beaches are deserted, remote, underdeveloped or private owned by some resorts and villas.

The most famous beach is the four-kilometer White Beach. It is filled with large number of hotels, resorts, lodging houses and is the center of tourism-related businesses. Its calm seas and a backdrop of green lively hills make this place very refreshing.

If adventure is a sort of your type, Bulabog beach is probably the place to fit in. Its name is probably derived from the unusual winds prevalent in the area. It is best to enjoy windsurfing, kite boarding and other extreme water sports. It is also surrounded by high coral reefs which provide ideal places for scuba diving.

Though the geography of Boracay Island shares many similarities to other tropical islands in the Southeast Asia, but there is something magical in the place, an x-factor for the visitors to re-visit and newcomers to be excited.
