Just Around the Corner is Caloocan

It’s neither a business district nor a mall district but there’s something charming about this city, maybe because of its historical roots or maybe because of the people who reside in the place. This makes the city attract a couple of its own visitors. People say that sometimes, quaint and low-profile cities of a country have their own unique charm and heritage that tells a new story about the country.

Maybe this is why you should visit this village- it might just surprise you.

Caloocan is located in the Northern part of NCR. It’s in between the intersection of EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos) and Rizal Avenue. To make the most of your stop, it’s best to check the current weather conditions before visiting.

Historical trivia

Caloocan is indeed a unique name for a city. It’s actually derived from the colloquial term “lo-ok” which means- in the corner.

It is rooted in significant events in History. For a start, the people of Caloocan had a really strong voice during the Spanish regime. Andres Bonifacio orchestrated the people of Caloocan on a revolution against the Spaniards during 1986. It also went through trails and tribulations trying to defend themselves against next colonizers of the Philippines- the Americans and the Japanese.

Now, however, it is a new day. The Philippines has friendly relations with their previous colonizers. Caloocan, was then made a city last 1961 and is starting to build a brighter future for its people.

Landmarks, Resorts, and a lot more

Bonifacio’s Monument marks the spot. Once you see it, you’ll know that you’re already at Caloocan. This is after Andres Bonifacio known as one of the founders of the famous Katipunan, a revolutionary group against the Spanish regime. This monument was done by Guillermo Tolentino, a Filipino National Artists in Sculpture.

Calookan is home to Manila Central University (both a university and a hospital). The establishment of this university dates back to 1903 which makes it one of the oldest universities in the Philippines.

Activities Galore

A forest within a city?

Yes it’s possible in Caloocan City, in Gubat sa Ciudad Resort (Forest in a City Resort). The place is packed with swimming pools with water slides.
