Davao del Sur: Nature’s Haven

Mindanao, for me, is one of the most exotic and interesting places to visit in the Philippines. Indeed, it is a part of the Philippines, but they have a lot of unique traditions that are interesting to learn and experience. Like other countries, the Philippines also has its own set of subcultures. Islam is also more rampant there than any other place in the Philippines.

Davao del Sur is one of the provinces in Davao. It offers a wide array of activity of things to do. A lot of things to do, a lot of things to learn and most of all, a lot of beautiful sites to see. Nature is definitely present here in Davao del Sur.

For a refresher, the Philippines is divided into three islands- Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Mindanao is located at the south most of the Philippines. So you can say that Davao Del Sur (sur means south) is located at the South of the South. This is the home of the famous Mt. Apo (the Philippines tallest mountain), The Philippine Eagle (National Bird of the Philippines), and other flora and fauna, but this is just a teaser. So if you’re a nature lover, an adventure lover, simply someone who is looking for a memorable vacation, it’s time to pay this place a visit.

Things to consider

It’s always wise to know the weather conditions of the place that you plan to visit. Here, the coolest months are December and January while the hottest months are the April and May. If you plan to go nature trekking then it’s probably wise to visit during the hot months. Fortunately, this place is outside the typhoon belt but just to be sure check the current weather conditions before your visit.

The people here speak the following dialects- Cebuano/Visayan, Tagalog, B’laan, Bagobo, Manobo, Tagakaolo, Muslim. Filipinos are known to be good in speaking or understanding the English language but just in case, bring a little Muslim dictionary for emergency purposes.

The foundation of this city is on July 1.

Welcome to Davao

philippine travel Pearl Farm Beach Resort, Davao del Sur

In Samal Island, an 11-hectare Pearl Farm Beach resort is one of the more sought after destination spots here. It is filled with really welcoming accommodations and many facilities that can address your need to relax or your need for activity. The place has its own spa where you can spend the day and just erase all your stress away. There are also other activities that you may engage in like scuba diving for instance. The beach resort, however, adds a bonus. Scuba diving is made more exciting because of the Japanese ships that you may explore at the bottom of the sea.

Outside the luxuries of the Pearl Farm Beach resort are other activities….

White-water rafting can definitely be included in your list of activities. You can do this Sibulan River, Darong, and Sta. Cruz. It gets a bit rugged here because you’ll use an inflatable tire when you do the rafting! But isn’t it fun sometimes to go back to the basics? Other activities include biking in Samal Island, aqua-sports activities in Malalag, Sta. Maria, Jose Abad Santos, Sarangani, and Sta. Cruz (these are among other places).

Davao del Sur is really nature’s haven as it has a lot of farms. The Philippines is an agricultural country by nature and a lot of farms can be found in here in places like Kapatagan (coffee, vegetables), Hagonoy (banana, sugar cane, and mango), Malalag (banana), Padada (banana), and Malita (cacao, coffee, coconut).

To make your adventure even more exciting, go and visit their Crocodile farm and Philippine Eagle Research and Nature Center. Also stop by and view the mighty Tudaya Falls! This picturesque and site is one of the highest falls in the country which will surely make your trip here even more adventurous!

Davao del Sur, history and the arts

While you’re visiting Davao, why not get to know the place more? When I’m visiting place, I make sure not to miss learning a little bit about history and the arts. Here you can view tribal costumes, jewellery, handicrafts, paintings, plus many more. For more modern works, visit Ford Academy of the Arts. It’s actually a school that offers pre-school training to specialized art training in college.

Sulyap U.P. Mindanao Cultural Center, probably the equivalent of Manila’s Cultural Center of the Philippines, is also another place you can visit. Here, you can learn about the past and current events of Davao del Sur.

It’s quite tempting to visit isn’t it? Why don’t you add one more place in the Philippines to your vacation list? This place rich in natures wonders will surely give you a rich experience that is worth remembering.

Nature is definitely its central attraction but you can experience a lot more should you want to. Feed your camera with beautiful attractions and add memories to your scrapbook! Davao del Sur may be all the way to the South, but it’s definitely worth the trip.

Here in Davao del Sur, nature’s wonders will always be waiting to give you an adventure.
